New Year 2026 Message

New Year 2026 Message

January 02, 2026

Last Sunday, our pastor encouraged the congregation to conduct a ‘Yellow Pad Review’ of the past year. He noted that this is the ideal season for reflecting on past events while anticipating the future. As we engaged in this exercise, he emphasized the importance of perspective when evaluating our achievements, challenges, and aspirations, citing a widely recognized quote:

“There’s a reason the windshield is much larger than the rearview mirror. Your destination holds far greater importance than what you’ve left behind.” - Unknown.

As my family and I embark on this personal journey of introspection, it feels appropriate to do the same with Aspen Financial Strategies, as I have done in previous years.

For those of you who have been with me for several years, 2024 was a pivotal turning point for our firm. Transitioning from a partnership to a solo Financial Consultant practice presented unique challenges as we navigated shifts in dynamics and style. We are forever grateful for the trust and support of our clients who embraced our vision during that time. If 2024 was our "transitional" year, we committed to making 2025 our "foundational" year. Through that focused effort, our mantra has evolved:

“We are a technology-forward, education-driven, generational wealth management firm.”

Early in 2025, we overhauled our workflows and implemented new procedures to enhance the client experience. We invested in leading-edge technologies and resources to streamline scheduling, servicing, and CRM activities.

Furthermore, while video conferencing and mobile technology have made communication more accessible than ever, we still believe firmly in the value of face-to-face interactions. To that end, we are proud to have extended the long-term lease on our office at 1503 S. Yale Street, Suite 100.

As we establish our identity, clarity of mission is crucial. We recognized that the concept of "holistic wealth management" is often misunderstood. Moving forward, we aim to make clear the distinctions between simple investment management and comprehensive wealth management, ensuring that we appropriately match our service positioning with our clients’ expectations and needs. To support this, we have contracted with an industry-leading provider to serve as the backbone to our financial planning suite of offerings.

If you know me, you know my passion for technology. I maintain a (hopefully healthy!) obsession with researching tools that enhance efficiency and productivity. We are all witnessing how Artificial Intelligence (AI) is reshaping many aspects of our lives. The financial services industry is no exception. We are closely monitoring these developments, prioritizing privacy, data accuracy, and strict regulatory compliance. We will strategically implement AI only where it augments the value we provide to you, using fully compliance-approved tools.

Reflecting on the 2025 market, the technology sector remained the primary driver for a third consecutive year of double-digit returns across major indexes.  LPL Research’s Outlook 2026 report suggests this positive momentum may continue, with technology leading the charge.  However, as I wrote about in last year’s New Year’s message, nothing moves in a straight line.  Even healthy sector bull markets can, and will, experience volatilities.  And we anticipate that this coming year will have its share, with policy and geopolitics in the forefront of headlines.

We remain committed to providing the context you need to navigate these phases. Beginning in January 2026, we will launch “The Water Cooler”—informal get-togethers to discuss current headlines and their effects on the markets and the economy.  Stay tuned for more on this and our other outreach activities.

I would like to personally thank you for choosing us as your guide as we navigate through this new year.  It promises to be an eventful ride.  Happy New Year!
